Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) Launches TikTok-Like Feature “Fast Laughs”

Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) has launched a new mobile feature that allows users to watch funny videos without watching the whole movie or TV Show on the platform. The featured called “Fast Laughs” is currently available to iOS device users in select countries.

“Fast Laughs” enables users to enjoy comedy

The new option looks and feels like Instagram Reels or TikTok, where various clips are taken from shows such as Big mouth or stand-ups specials from the likes of Ali Wong and Jerry Seinfeld play directly within the platform. If a particular show or special intrigues a user, they can add the title to the saved list to watch later.

While announcing the launch of the feature, Netflix product innovation director Patrick Fleming said the company is always looking for new ways to make discovery effortless for its members and keep them entertained. He added that the feature offers new ways of entertaining users by offering new full-screen funny clips feed on a range of Netflix titles. Flemming said that “Fast Laugh’s” addition will offer subscribers a pinch of laughter and could serve as a mood booster throughout the day. Most importantly, “Fast Laughs” currently makes sense for the streaming giant considering TikTok has become the ultimate titan in terms of daily engagement.

Netflix sees TikTok as a competitor

Similarly, in a few of its recent earnings reports, Netflix indicated that TikTok is their major competitor. Despite both platforms making different content types, consumers still spend most of their time on TikTok than Netflix. As a result, the competition comes into play. Offering iOS device users something to scroll in their devices, making them spend time more o the app by enjoying laughter, is a smart move by the company.

Besides, the feature will also help Netflix highlight content on the platform. The company has invested significantly in stand-up comedy by signing multiple deals with comedians such as Kevin Hart and Adam Sandler and built a slate of animation. Netflix is not launching a new platform but a feature entertaining subscribers.
